| Halved hole |

A hole played in the same number of swings by other players. |
| Handicap |
|
A score adjustment system allowing those of differing skill levels to compete. Based on the lowest ten scores of the last fifteen scores recorded. The lower the handicap, the better the golfer. Less skilled players are allowed to deduct strokes when playing against better players. |
| Hanging lie |
|
Situation where the ball rests on a slope running away from the player. |
| Hard pan |
|
Hard-packed ground or turf. |
| Haskell ball |
|
The first incarnation of modern golf balls made with rubber straps wound around a core invented by Coburn Haskell. |
| Hazard |
|
A penalizing area of sand or water in which you may not ground your club. |
| Heel |
|
The part of the club head that is closest to you. |
| Hole |
|
1. General term for the region between the tee and green. 2. The specific target in the ground. |
| Hole out |
|
The final stroke where the ball falls into the cup. |
| Honor |
|
The privilege of going first based on making the lowest score on the previous hole. The honor may be declined. |
| Hook |
|
A shot that caused the ball rotate counterclockwise and curve to the left (for a right-handed golfer). |
| Hosel |
|
The part of the club head that attaches to the club shaft. |
