A ball barely off the hole, making the next putt a definite certainty. |

|
Concede a match without playing it. |
| Deloft |
|
Decreasing the loft of a club face by tilting the club shaft toward the target. |
| Dimple |
|
One of hundreds of small indentations on the golf ball. |
| Divot |
|
A small strip of turf removed by the club head during a swing. Golfing etiquette requires that the divot be replaced and pressed down. |
| Dog-leg |
|
A hole that changes direction sharply to either the left or the right from tee to cup. |
| Dormie |
|
In match play, describes the situation in which a team can’t lose a match against the competition because the number of holes left to play is the same as the current lead. |
| Double bogey |
|
Finishing a hole in two more shots than par. |
| Double eagle |
|
Finishing a hole in three shots less than par on a par-5 hole. Known as an albatross in England. |
| Down |
|
The number of holes (in match play) or strokes (in medal play) that a player is down. |
| Downhill lie |
|
A lie in which your front foot is below your rear foot at address. |
| Draw |
|
A shot that bends or hooks slightly to the left (for a right-handed golfer) during the flight of the ball. |
| Drive |
|
The longest type of stroke made during play, usually with a wood or a low numbered irons. |
| Driver |
|
The driver has a long shaft and little loft and is used to drive the ball the farthest from the tee. |
| Driving range |
|
A place to hit practice balls. |
| Drop |
|
Placing a ball back into play after it was deemed unplayable. |
| Dub |
|
A nicer term for a hacker; it also means to hit the ball poorly. |
| Duff |
|
To completely miss or mess up a shot. |
