Golf Improvement Instructions
Golf is a very demanding and humbling sport. It is not demanding in
a physical sense such as other sports like football or basketball. It is demanding in that it takes time and patience to develop into a good
golfer and even more if you want to become a great golfer. The game of golf is humbling in that in order to become a good golfer, you have
to ask for help. Sure you can read all the books and watch all the videos you can get your hands on, but in the end, to really improve you are
going to have to ask for help.
In order to become a good golfer, one must have an idea of what that is. A good golfer is considered to have an average score of below
80. Now that depends on the golf course you play and who you play with. If you play the same golf course over and over, you come to know
how to play it in order to have a good game. Try playing on different courses that have different difficulty levels to see how your average
score stacks up. Also, play with different people when you can. Competition, no matter how friendly, helps you improve your golf
game.
There are three general areas that you need to develop in order to become a good golfer, a they are:
- Golf Fitness
- Practice & Training
- Etiquette
Golf Fitness
In order to develop into a good golfer you have to improve your level of fitness for golf. When you keep your body and mind in
shape you are able to perform better on the golf course which in turn allows you to improve your golf game. There are two main areas of
golf fitness that you need to pay attention to.
Overall Body Fitness
This is attained by eating right, getting enough exercise and the proper amount of sleep. Good indicators of your physical fitness level
is your blood pressure and overall muscular endurance. You want to spend some time exercising to develop your cardiovascular system because
you are going to be walking alot and carrying your clubs to each hole. Also, you want to have good muscle tone to and flexibility to be able to
execute a good golf swing and transfer your physical power through the club onto the golf ball to send it down the course.
Remember, you are not running a marathon or entering a bodybuilding competition. If you want to improve your golf game and your overall
muscular development, focus on exercises that mimic the movements of the golf swing. That goes for your cardiovascular endurance also, spend some
time walking or jogging, but remember, you are not going to be entering a race so tailor your cardio work accordingly.
Mental Fitness
Basically, find ways to relieve your stress other than on the golf course. Golf requires good mental focus, and if you are stressed out,
you will have difficulty on the course which will not help you improve your golf game. Try to de-stress before you step on the course and
relax while you play. Your game will improve and your friends playing with you will appreciate it too.
Golf Training and Practice
In order to become good at anything, you have to practice, practice and then practice some more.
When people first start playing golf, they want to get on the course and start swinging. Then when they do not do as well as they would
like, they get frustrated and either give up or have a tough time improving. Devoting time to practicing specific aspects of your golf game
will yield better results for your golf score as well as improving your enjoyment of the game.
A good rule of thumb is to practice 2 hours for every hour that you will be spending actually playing golf. Try not to do it on the same
day because that can lead to feelings of being burnt out. The more you practice, the more you will develop good golf swing and putting
techniques and improve your muscle memory. Practicing a proper golf swing will help teach your body the
correct position and movements to execute every time you take a swing - it becomes second nature.
Golf Etiquette
Remember earlier we said that competition helps you improve your golf game. Well in order to get that competition we need others to play
golf with. You can be the best player on the practice field, but if you are rude or condesending you will find it hard to get others to
play you in a game of golf. The respect and consideration you show others while playing will be returned to you. Also, having others
to play with not only allows you opportunites to improve your golf game, but it also makes your time on the golf course more enjoyable.
The three areas mentioned above are very broad and general. Each one can be broken down into many smaller areas with even more things to help
you become a better golfer. Just remember, that if you pay attention to each of these three major areas, even a little bit, your overall
golfing experience will be a enjoyable one.
